While I try to use natural products as much as possible, I am not able to always do so, such as with the needed preservatives in lotions and liquid soaps. Anything with water in it must have a preservative to help prevent bacterial, yeast, and mold growth. While I try to use ones that are derived from natural sources, such as Leucidal Liq preservative which is derived from radishes fermented with a lactic acid bacteria, it is not always possible to find ones suitable for specific products.
Deforestation due to palm oil farming has devastated many areas of the tropics. According to the World Wildlife Fund website, usually the land is cleared through clear cutting and burning of the forests, destroying “critical habitat for many endangered species—including rhinos, elephants and tigers. Burning forests to make room for the crop is also a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. Intensive cultivation methods result in soil pollution and erosion and water contamination.” Because of this, I only buy sustainable produced palm oil.
Not to my knowledge! I research all my ingredients to ensure that they are as pure, natural, and sustainable as possible, and not harmful.
Parabens are still being studied by the Food and Drug Administration, and have not determined that parabens in cosmetics are a health hazard at this point. But out of an abundance of caution, I do not use parabens in my products.
